Services for Students With Disabilities
Full Sail University is committed to providing equal access to all students, including students with disabilities. Full Sail complies with applicable state and federal laws, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as Amended. The mission of the Student Success Services department is to create an accessible and inclusive environment and to support students with disabilities.
Full Sail University does not offer academic programs specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. The University is committed to providing students with services and reasonable accommodations upon review of a student’s needs and documentation.
Students with documented disabilities, such as learning, physical, sensory, health, or psychiatric disabilities, may request reasonable accommodations through the Student Success Services department to ensure equitable access to education and activities. Students who have – or suspect they might have – a disability for which they would like to request accommodations should contact Student Success Services to discuss their needs.
Full Sail is committed to providing equal access to all students. While upholding this commitment, Full Sail also expects students to maintain a high standard of academic achievement and excellence while attending the university.
Requesting Accommodations
Students who request accommodations are expected to self-disclose by first completing a Reasonable Accommodations Request Form. For students who are engaged in the Enrollment process, the enrollment document entitled “Services for Students with Disabilities” offers an opportunity for students to identify whether they need accommodations and to receive the link to the Reasonable Accommodations Request Form via an automatic email. The Reasonable Accommodations Request Form contains a series of questions that provide an opportunity for students to describe their disabilities and the accommodations they are requesting. Students can include information about their experiences, barriers faced, and/or previous accommodations utilized. Supporting documentation should provide information on the impact of the disability. While students may contact Student Success Services at any time during or prior to their program at Full Sail University, many students submit documentation before beginning courses as Student Success Services needs sufficient notice in order to review and provide reasonable accommodations. Requests must be evaluated and arrangements must be made prior to the anticipated need for service or support.
Suggested Supporting Documentation
Supporting documentation is recommended to be typed on professional letterhead, dated, and signed by a medical or other qualified professional. The professional making the diagnosis of disability should be an appropriately trained individual, including but not limited to a physician, psychologist, psychiatrist, or educational diagnostician. Documentation from a family member or friend is not acceptable. It should state the disability or disabilities. Additionally, it may describe the impact or symptoms of the disability. If appropriate, it may discuss the severity, expected progression, or medication side effects. Documentation may also describe current or past accommodations utilized and/or any recommended accommodations.
Review of Documentation
Documentation submitted by students is reviewed on an individual, case-by-case basis to assess the request and evaluate the relevant documentation. Accommodation requests are considered within the context of the documentation and educational requirements. If the documentation does not contain sufficient information in order to determine appropriate accommodations, the student will be contacted to request additional documentation. Students may submit additional documentation for review at any time
Determination of Accommodations
This interactive process, along with provided documentation and consideration of academic integrity, informs the determination of appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
